There are several channels on Youtube that have licensed copyrighted films which you can legally watch for free. Some of them have playlists with hundreds of different movies to enjoy. In addition to compiling the best legal channels offering full horror movies, we will also provide a list of the best free horror movies on Youtube.

In total, there are over 2,500 free horror movies spread across all of the channels we will mention in this post. We’re not going to list each and every one of them, but we will mention some of the more interesting options. If you want even more horror movies to watch, make sure to click on the playlists and support each individual channel.

Top 20 Free Horror Movies on Youtube

This list will focus on the most notable and popular free horror movies you can watch on various Youtube channels. We’ll also include a few bonus options which aren’t mentioned anywhere else in the post. Each of these movies has been legally licensed and is perfectly safe to watch.


1. Horror Express

This cult classic actually has its roots in the same story that inspired John Carpenter’s The Thing. In fact, you could almost consider this one an unofficial sequel!

 

 

The film also stars horror icons Christopher Lee (Horror of Dracula) and Peter Cushing (Star Wars). Could you ask for anymore horror bona fides? This movie is available to watch thanks to the channel Watch Movies Now.

2. Threads

This is arguably the most disturbing of all the free horror movies on our list. Threads is a movie which posits what would actually happen if nuclear war broke out. Many consider this to be the most brutally honest of all post-apocalypse films.

 

 

We can’t stress enough just how hard it is to watch this movie. There are several scenes depicting horrific events which could trigger some audiences. This one is available to watch thanks to the Youtube channel Kings of Horror.

3. The Changeling

Starring George C. Scott (Patton, Dr. Strangelove), this is one of the best rated horror films on our list. Fans of haunted house stories owe it to themselves to watch this classic of the subgenre.

 

 

Many consider this to be one of the better haunted house movies of them all. This is another title made available thanks to the Kings of Horror channel.

4. The Night Visitor

Max Von Sydow (Flash Gordon, The Seventh Seal) plays one of his creepiest roles in this film. He is joined by Trevor Howard (The Third Man, Gandhi), the inspector trying to catch a murderer. This movie was directed by Laslo Benedek; he worked mostly in television, but was also an accomplished filmmaker.

 

 

Benedek is perhaps best known for directing The Wild One, an important early film for Marlon Brando. This relatively well-rated horror movie is made available thanks to the Kings of Horror channel.

5. The Uncanny

This is another horror classic starring Peter Cushing (From Beyond the Grave). It’s also another excellent example of a horror anthology. Each story in The Uncanny features cats that spell doom for the humans around them.

6. BE MY CAT: A Film For Anne

This somewhat strange title has become quite well known in the horror community recently. It’s a found footage movie that really leaves you questioning whether or not it’s actually real.

 

 

The story focuses on a fledgling filmmaker trying to convince Anne Hathaway to be in his film. The lengths he goes to for this goal quickly become absolutely terrifying! This movie is available thanks to the Kings of Horror channel.

7. Dark Waters

This is the definition of a cult classic, and it’s definitely deserving of more praise. As the saying goes, “every frame is a painting.” Pause this movie anywhere and you’ll almost certainly see a shot that would look great framed on a wall.

 

 

The story focuses on a secret island convent where strange things are taking place. If you’re a fan of the killer nun subgenre, this is one movie you won’t want to miss!

8. Demonia

Fans of Italian horror won’t want to pass up this golden opportunity to see one of Lucio Fulci’s later works. You might remember his work directing popular horror films like The New York Ripper and City of the Living Dead.

9. Aenigma

This is yet another great Lucio Fulci film, and another excellent example of Italian horror. It might not be the director’s most beloved work, but it’s definitely a cult classic.

10. Paganini Horror

This is another cult classic that horror fans will no doubt be happy to see. It’s also another great example of Italian horror! Who knew the power of rock and roll could literally open a portal to hell?

 

 

Director Luigi Cozzi was also known for making cash-in titles based on other popular properties. One of his most popular films was StarCrash, which was clearly trying to take advantage of the popularity of Star Wars. This is another title on the channel Kings of Horror.

11. Drive-in Massacre

This is another cult classic that many horror fans adore. Although it’s not highly rated, it’s definitely a fun movie to watch with friends. To give you a sense of the quality to expect, this film was shot in 4 days. Furthermore, the script was written in just one week.

12. Bram Stoker’s Shadow Builder

Based on a short story by Bram Stoker, this late 90’s horror is not very well-rated. Even so, some fans swear by this movie and it can be considered a cult classic.

 

 

The cast is led by Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy), and Tony Todd (Candyman) also makes an appearance. This horror movie is on the Popcornflix channel.

13. JeruZalem

This is one of the better modern found footage horrors. Although it’s somewhat different from other films in this genre, it’s still worth watching.

 

 

You’re just going to have to trust us: there’s almost no way you’ll guess how it ends. Okay, maybe you will, but it’ll still be fun to find out if you were right!

14. The Taking of Deborah Logan

This is one of the most modern horror film on our list, but it’s a good one. There are some genuinely creepy moments in this found footage horror movie.

 

 

Since directing this film, Adam Robitel has gone on to direct Insidious: The Last Key. Jill Larson (Shutter Island) does an excellent job with the lead role in the film. You can enjoy this movie thanks to the Kings of Horror channel.

15. Madman

This is another very popular cult classic with a strong fan base among the horror community. The plot might sound familiar to Friday the 13th fans, as it depicts a serial killer coming after teens at a summer camp.

 

 

Did we mention this movie came out just one year after the first Friday the 13th? Regardless of the similarities, this is still a significant film in the slasher subgenre. You can watch this movie thanks to Kings of Horror.

16. Killer Crocodile

Following the success of Jaws, there were a slew of monster movies featuring killer animals. This was one of the lesser known movies that followed the craze, but it has become something of a favorite among horror fans.

17. Death Warmed Up

Michael Hurst (Hercules, Xena) plays the lead role in this cult classic of the home video era. This film tells the tale of a young boy who is convinced under hypnosis to kill his parents.

 

 

After getting out of the mental institution, he seeks revenge on the doctor who hypnotized him. This movie is on the Kings of Horror channel.

18. Abominable

This is a more modern cult horror film made for audiences who grew up in the home video era. Matt McCoy (DeepStar Six, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle) leads the cast in this film.

19. The Howling III, IV, V

Okay, so this is technically more than one movie, but it’s definitely worth mentioning. The Howling I and The Howling II are beloved cult classics of the 80s. Unfortunately, the later films in the franchise were not as well loved.

1. Velocipastor

With a title like that, how could you not watch this movie? The plot centers around a priest who travels to China and inherits the ability to turn into a dinosaur.

 

 

From this point on he decides to use his newfound powers to fight crime. The more ridiculous the plot is, the better — right? You can watch this movie on the Kings of Horror channel.

2. Snakes on a Train

As the title implies, this is a spinoff of Snakes on a Plane, which is another great cheesy horror movie. Sadly, you won’t see Samuel L. Jackson in this movie.

Not only is there a movie with zombie zoo animals, but there’s a sequel! If you can believe it, these aren’t actually the first movies about zombified zoo animals.

8. 8213: Gacy House

This one is an interesting case, because it’s actually part of an unofficial series of spinoffs. The series began with Paranormal Entity, which was obviously cashing in on the Paranormal Activity franchise.

 

 

This is the third movie in the Paranormal Entity series, and it has almost nothing to do with the original. As you might have guessed, it is a found footage film. You can watch this one on the Horror Central channel.

9. Ice Spiders

If you’ve got arachnophobia, this one might not be a laughing matter. However, if you can appreciate giant spiders killing people at a ski resort, this should be a fun movie to watch.

This is where the rubber meets the road, folks. When you click on an article promising access to thousands of free horror movies on Youtube, you don’t just expect lists of the best and worst of them. If you’re like me, chances are you want to dig through all of those movies on your own. That’s what this section is all about.

The following list includes some of the best horror movie channels on Youtube. Each one offers playlists with anywhere from 25 – 960 free horror movies. All of these Youtube channels are verified, and they have licensed the right to publish these movies onto their channel. As such, it is entirely free and legal to enjoy these films.

If you add up all the titles across each of these playlists, you’ll find there are over 1,500 free horror movies on Youtube. That said, it should be noted that some of these playlists relist the same movies twice. As such, we’re not going to specify exactly how many titles are available for free.
